Trademark Renewal Guide in Algeria

In Algeria, trademark renewals are managed by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI), which is the government authority responsible for intellectual property matters in the country.

Costs relating to trademark registration are both official and professional. Official fees are fees paid to the government for processing your trademark renewal and are required to be paid one time.

A trademark lasts for 10 years from the filing date in Algeria and can be renewed within the last year of protection.

A Trademark in Algeria should be renewed every 10  years from the filing date. After renewing the trademark, it becomes renewable for similar consecutive periods (10 years) indefinitely in Algeria. 

It is important to renew your trademark within due time, or the trademark office will make the trademark owner pay penalties for the delay in settling renewal fees. The trademark office may also cancel your trademark.

• The trademarks in Algeria become due for renewal every 10 years from the filing date.

• Trademark renewals can be filed 12 months before the expiry date.

• Trademark renewals can be filed 6 months after the expiry date in a period called the grace period.

• Deed of use is required for meeting formality requirements in Algeria. 

• International trademarks do not have any local proceedings for submission of deed of use, and the international portal does not allow for that, therefore to avoid potential cancellation action based on non-use, it is advised to submit a formal letter to the trademark office showing local use relating to international trademarks, just to maintain records of submission.
