The Nice Classification (NCL) is an international categorization of goods and services used for trademark registration that was created by the Nice Agreement (1957). The Classification contains 34 different types of goods and 11 different types of services.

Class 30 for trademarks header: 

The Nice Class Headings describe in very broad terms the nature of the goods or services contained in each class. The class 30 class header includes: Coffee, tea, cocoa, sugar, rice, tapioca, sago, and artificial coffee; flour and preparations made from cereals, bread, pastry, and confectionery, ices; honey, treacle; yeast, baking powder; salt, mustard; vinegar, sauces (condiments); spices; ice; sandwiches; prepared meals; pizzas, pies, and pasta dishes. It mainly includes food products of plant origin, excluding fruits and vegetables, prepared or preserved (including frozen) for consumption, as well as additives intended to improve the flavor of food.

Trademark Class 30 includes, in particular:

  • Beverages with coffee, cocoa, chocolate, or tea base, while Milk falls under Class 29, juices for cooking purposes fall under Class 29, and fruit juices fall under Class 32.

  • Cereals are prepared for human consumption, for example, oat flakes, corn chips, husked barley, bulgur, and muesli.

  • Prepared meals; pizzas, pies, and pasta dishes.

  • Chocolate-coated nuts.

  • Flavorings, other than essential oils, for food or beverages.

Trademark Class 30 does not include in particular:

  • While Class 30 includes flavorings, Salt for industrial purposes falls under Class 1, Food or beverage flavorings being essential oils fall under Class 3, and fresh herbs fall under Class 31.

  • Medicinal teas and dietetic food and substances adapted for medical use fall under Class 5.

  • Savory snacks and sauces fall under Class 30, but Baby food belongs in Class 5, and Dietary supplements fall under Class 5.

  • Yeast falls under Class 30, although Yeats for pharmaceutical purposes and yeast for animal consumption falls under Class 31.

  • Products of Animal origin fall under Class 29 including fresh and freeze-dried meat, and Milk beverages flavored with coffee, cocoa, chocolate, or tea are excluded from Class 30. 

  • Animal-related foods and foodstuffs are not covered under Class 30 but fall under trademark Class 31.

  • Savory sauces are included in Class 30, but Soups and bouillon are covered by Class 29 of the Nice Classification for trademarks.

  • While cereal and products made from cereal fall under Class 30 of the Nice Classification for trademarks, raw cereals fall under Class 31.

Changes in the nice classifications relating to trademark goods on Class 30

There were no changes to the goods in Class 30, but the following items are now expressly included in it:
