📅 Effective December 28, 2021
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially joined the Madrid Protocol, becoming the 109th member of the Madrid System. This move empowers trademark holders in the UAE with simplified international trademark protection opportunities.
Trademark holders in the UAE can now expand their protection internationally by filing a single application and paying a single set of fees. With this accession, the UAE joins Bahrain and Oman as the third Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member country to be part of the Madrid Union.
While the accession takes effect on December 28, 2021, detailed procedures and requirements, including examination and publication procedures, are yet to be announced by local authorities. We will keep you informed as soon as further information becomes available.
