The United Arab Emirates has joined the Madrid Protocol with WIPO Deputy Director Generals Binying Wang and Hasan Kleib, making it the 109th member of the Madrid System.
United Arab Emirates is now the 3rd country in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) after Bahrain and Oman to join the Madrid Union.
The accession will take effect on 28-December-21 to help local brand owners with protecting their trademarks in 108 countries internationally by filing a single international application and paying a single set of fees.
The mechanisms (examination procedures, publication procedures, and requirements for a POA for national applications) are yet to be announced by the local authority. We will keep you updated on any further information we receive.
